Traits Of Successful People

Over the years the traits of successful people has been a topic of much discussion.

All the great pioneers, entrepreneurs and entertainers of the world possess certain characteristics that have seen them achieve incredible success. But the good news is, these are success traits not just afforded to an exclusive group of people. They are not things that they were born with.

They are things that can be easily developed by you, me and everyone else, if the drive and desire for success is strong.

Everyone has an entitlement to be successful, but as you probably know by now, success is not something that just happens.

Below is a list of 8 traits of successful people... those must have characteristics that distinguish the achievers from the 'also-ran's'.

They Have Strong Belief

They all believe that they can succeed in whatever they set out to accomplish. They never let fear, worry or doubt control them. They encounter obstacles and challenges with a strong confidence that they will be overcome and a positive outcome will result.

 They Have Perseverance

This is an essential trait if success is to be realized. Success is often a windy road. It is never easy or straightforward. Most of the successful people we know have shown great inner strength to keep pursuing their goals despite facing seemingly insurmountable challenges. Just think of Thomas Edison.

They Set 'Fantasized' Goals

Goals are vital to anyone's success, but what distinguishes the great from the ordinary are the types of goals they set themselves. Great innovators don't set goals they know or think they can achieve; they set goals that are perceived by many as stuff of fantasy. A great example of this was that of Bill Gates, whose dream was 'a computer on every desk and Microsoft software on every computer'.

 They Love What They Do

Every day they have an incessant drive, hunger and vitality which inspires them towards their goals and success. For the high achiever, success is never an overnight thing. It's a long, hard and difficult road so without a love and passion for what they do they would have given up well before the finishing line.

They Fail

All successful people have failed at one time or other. They realize that failure is an essential part of success, and so don't waste any time and energy worrying about it. They all seem to adopt the philosophy of the great poet Samuel Beckett "Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better."

 They Are Optimistic

Optimism is a key trait that all successful people possess. However difficult things get for them they never get deterred or disillusioned. They have a consistently positive and upbeat mentality which ensures their drive and desire never diminishes despite challenges or difficulties.

They Are Focused

Focus is at the core of all successful people's characters. They have a steadfast ability to prioritize projects that will move them closer to their goals, and avoid distractions that will prevent or hinder their progress.

 Focused

People who are focused on what they do are people who have vision on what they want to achieve. Though there are discoveries and inventions in the history of mankind that may be considered as accidental, we have to admit that most of the important technology that we are using in this industrialized and globalized world all came from great imaginations.

If you are focused, you won't let anything distract you. If you fail, you won't let that distract you as well no matter how many times it happens.

Confident

Successful people are confident. They don't entertain the thought that they are not good. They already condition their minds that they can do something, and not surprisingly, they do achieve whatever it is they want.

 Brave

You may hear people saying, "no guts, no glory." This is actually very true. Winners take risks, and more importantly, they are not afraid to take risks. If Ferdinand Magellan, for example, had not been brave enough to travel the waters that will bring him more than halfway across the world, he would not have discovered new islands and territories for Spain.

Committed

Successful people are tied to what they believe in and tied to their jobs and careers. Commitment would also be associated to your commitment to success. This is why successful basketball players, for example work hard at practice and in the field no matter what it takes because they are committed to their team's success and to the sport itself.

Optimistic

Negativity can bring you down, and when you're down, your energy is low. If you don't have the energy to do what you need to do, you can't be successful. This is why there are pep talks, and cheerleaders in any kind of sport or game. Lifted spirits perform better at what they do. This is also why the most successful sales professionals already think beforehand that they will close the sale even before negotiating with the deal or before making the sales pitch. This positive energy makes people do better in their fields.

 Patient

No success comes in an instant. You probably have heard the success stories of people who have made it big. They usually started young and persevered several years before finally establishing a name. Without patience, one will feel frustration and getting frustrated will just lead one to getting discouraged.

Strong-willed

Successful people are also strong-willed in a positive way. Most of the time, they don't take no for an answer. They always say yes to opportunities and to chances at becoming better.

Trustworthy

More than honesty, being trustworthy is also an important trait that one should have in order to be successful. You can just imagine that in business, for example, you can't just do things in your own. You need partners, and a staff and everybody else to help you become successful. If other people can't trust you, then you can't have them do what is needed for you to reach your goals.
